Cohort-Based Schedule for TypeWell Training
As of late 2025, TypeWell is transitioning to a sponsor-driven, cohort-based model for the Basic Skills Course (BSC). Rather than keeping open-enrollment courses available year-round, we now organize training around defined cohorts that are launched when there’s sufficient sponsor or applicant demand.
How It Works
- Interest List: Prospective transcribers and sponsors can sign up to be notified when the next course is scheduled.
- Cohort Timing: Courses are expected to run once per year (or as needed) based on interest and instructor availability.
- Sponsor Priority: We prioritize cohorts that are sponsored by schools, agencies, or employers committed to mentoring and placing new transcribers.
- Independent Learning: Even within a cohort, each student progresses independently through the online modules at their own pace.
Preparing for the Next Cohort
If you’re an aspiring transcriber, you can:
- Create a free TypeWell Course Application account
- Take (or retake) the typing speed test and complete the other screening tests
- Explore our guides on readiness, equipment, and course expectations
Employers and sponsors who are interested in supporting a cohort can reach out to discuss scheduling options and candidate readiness.
Why the Change?
This new model:
- Aligns training timelines with real hiring needs
- Prevents bottlenecks caused by limited instructor availability
- Allows TypeWell to modernize and experiment with new delivery formats and tools (including more automation and self-assessment resources)
We’ll continue to post updates as plans take shape. For now, join the TypeWell Training Interest List to stay informed.
We understand that special circumstances may arise and will do our best to accommodate individual sponsors’ needs. If you have questions about timing or exceptions, please reach out.
