TypeWell Basic Skills Package
The Basic Skills Course teaches the fundamental skills necessary to provide text-based, meaning-for-meaning communication access. This distance learning course combines interactive training software with individualized feedback from a team of experienced teachers.
The training package also includes two Skill Consultations conducted by a TypeWell teacher following completion of the course. This ensures that newer transcribers receive an opportunity for first-year mentoring feedback once they’re in a live environment.
To qualify for the Basic Skills Course, candidates must meet certain minimum requirements; screening tests are included in the free online application.

TypeWell Refresher Course
This distance learning course is to former TypeWell transcribers who completed the Basic Skills Course but have been on hiatus from transcribing for 5 years or less. This option not available to transcribers who trained prior to 2007, because significant updates have since been made to the Basic Skills Course.
The Refresher Course covers all of the same material in the Basic Skills Course, but allows students to proceed more quickly in areas where their skills are still strong. It combines interactive training software with individualized feedback from a team of experienced teachers.

Turbo I Courselet
This self-paced short course teaches advanced abbreviation patterns (known as “Turbo Mode”) with audio lessons and hands-on practice.
Transcribers are recommended to have at least six months of real-time experience before diving into the Turbo abbreviation patterns.

LEO Continuing Education
Our Learning & Enrichment Online (LEO) platform delivers web-based short courses for existing TypeWell transcribers who wish to pursue additional training in specialized skills, English grammar, STEM transcription, professional development topics, and more.

While LEO Course modules can be viewed on any web-connected device, learners will need access to the TypeWell Transcriber software for hands-on practice.
