Reports during training
An important part of the trainee's learning in the TypeWell training course is support from the live teacher, and from the trainee's sponsor.  The TypeWell teacher communicates regularly with the trainee, providing feedback about skill development, encouragement, and guidance.

The TypeWell teacher also sends regular updates about the trainee's progress to the trainee's sponsor.  That way the sponsor knows what is happening in the training course, and can support the trainee's efforts and reinforce the teacher's input.  Having an interested person on-site who knows what and how the trainee is doing is a great support to good learning.

Another person on-site who might provide support to the trainee during training is the service coordinator.  We strongly recommend that every site have a service coordinator to oversee the smooth-running of the TypeWell service program.  You can read about the role of the service coordinator by clicking the Running the Service link above.  Sometimes the service coordinator and the training sponsor are the same person.  If they are not, the sponsor should consider forwarding to the service coordinator the reports during training.

Comprehensive Skill Check and Final Report
Near the end of the training course a Comprehensive Skill Check is done.  This is a thorough evaluation of the trainee's skills in all the areas covered in the course.

While the TypeWell teacher analyzes the trainee's Comprehensive Skill Check, the trainee goes on to complete the last two lessons of the training course.  The teacher computes the course grade and writes a detailed report, including recommendations for continued skill growth.  The Final Report also includes recommendations for the level of services the trainee would be able to provide.

This Final Report is put on the trainee's personal training account within 10 days, and a link to the report is emailed to the sponsor.  The final course grade and report are added to the trainee's password-protected TypeWell coursework transcript, for the trainee's future use.

Service recommendations
If a trainee receives a passing grade in the training course, he or she may provide communication access services using the TypeWell software.  Those who fail the course may not purchase nor use the TypeWell classroom service software.

Based on a trainee's course performance, the trainee may pass the course "with restrictions."  Such restrictions could include the requirement that the transcriber be assigned initially only to transcribe slow-speaking instructors; or to work only with an experienced transcriber while continuing to develop certain basic skills.

Upon passing the course, TypeWell classroom service software can be purchased for the new transcriber's use.  For more details about purchasing the TypeWell software, click the After Training link at the top of this page.

Next read about what to expect after the trainee passes the training, and how soon he or she can begin transcribing.
