TypeWell Online Training Includes Personal Teacher
Santa Barbara, CA -- March 12, 2007 -- CodeWell LLC, maker of the TypeWell system for transcribing speech to text, today opened for general registration its online course for training TypeWell transcribers.  "The new course combines the flexibility of distance learning, the focus of computer-aided instruction, and the guidance of a human teacher," said Dr. Judy Colwell, head trainer at CodeWell.  "In the past, our in-person classes were impractical for some people due to scheduling conflicts or travel costs," said Dr. Colwell.  "Now those limitations are gone.  Potential trainees can sign up for the course at any time, and complete the full training course remotely, in as few as 18 full-time days."

The core of the online training software is a surprisingly smart interactive computerized teaching assistant named Kyp, far more sophisticated than typical 'next page' courseware.  "Kyp is fast, fun, and provides the same individualized feedback our trainers would for guiding the development of top-notch transcribing skills," said Dr. Colwell.  "Trainees love him! Sometimes it's scary how real Kyp becomes to them."

Quality of training was the deciding factor in including a human teacher in the otherwise fully automated online course.  "At first we thought Kyp might be enough," said Dr. Colwell.  "But eventually we decided that for refining each individual trainee's skills so that he or she is ready to go from training right into the job of transcribing, there's no substitute for a real, human, experienced teacher.  Don't tell Kyp I said that!"

The online course covers a wide spectrum of topics related to transcribing, including abbreviation techniques, specific condensing methods, extensive transcribing of real lectures with immediate individualized feedback, the transcriber's role in the classroom, issues in deafness, and communication strategies.  The course takes 18 full-time days, or up to 3 part-time months to complete, and is open for registration at http://www.typewell.com/traininfo.html.
