Learning new things and strengthening skills is a fundamental part of all professions.
Not only does continuing education re-ignite enthusiasm for one's work, it is also often a factor upon which promotions and pay increases are based.
We at TypeWell have heard from many, many transcribers and coordinators that they want self-paced, remote continuing education opportunities.
Our new series of Courselets is our answer to those requests!
Turbo I Courselet
The first courselet, Turbo I, teaches 14 new abbreviation patterns from our new TypeWell version 6 transcriber software.
The Turbo I courselet is available only to TypeWell transcribers who have provided at least six months of experience providing real-time TypeWell service.
The courselet uses the same sophisticated interactive teaching programming as our Basic Skills and Refresher Courses.
This courselet takes between 4 and 6 hours to complete, and we recommend that time is spread out over several weeks.
After completing each of the 5 lessons, the transcriber should apply the new skills during actual real-time transcribing assignments, for at least an hour or two.
That's the best way to stabilize the use of the new skills learned in each lesson.
The Turbo I courselet can be purchased through the transcriber's online TypeWell account by signing in and then clicking on the Courselets link at the top of the page.
If you do not have an account (i.e. if you became a transcriber before 2007), contact us and we'll set it up for you.
There the transcriber may either pay the $49 course fee by credit card, or may give the email address of a sponsor who will be paying for the course.
The Turbo I course must be completed by the transcriber within 30 days, and is not transferrable.
Successful completion of the Turbo I courselet is automatically recorded on the transcriber's TypeWell Educational History page.
At the bottom of that page, the transcriber may request us to send the official proof of their Turbo I continuing education credit to an employer or potential employer.
Future Courselets
The Turbo II Courselet is not yet available.
We plan to provide additional new courselets over time.
To receive announcements about future courselets, transcribers should watch their TypeWell Transcriber Google Group emails.
Coordinators will be notified through the TypeWell Coordinators Google Group.
